Serendipity… or Life Giving You a Not So Subtle Nudge?

Have you ever wondered if life is trying to tell you something?
You know those moments...you think about a friend you haven't spoken to in ages and then ding, they text you.
Your job is made redundant and, after the initial "What on earth am I going to do now?" panic, you end up in a career you absolutely love.
Or perhaps you've been wanting to leave a relationship, or a situation that no longer serves you, but fear keeps you stuck until life makes the decision for you.
Coincidence, maybe, serendipity? I like that better.
Serendipity means finding something good or having something positive happen by chance. I like to think it's life's way of gently nudging us towards where we're meant to be, even if we don't realise it at the time and trusting that there may be something greater unfolding than we can see in the moment.
As a health coach, I'm always talking about nourishing our bodies and looking after our mindset. But there's one part of wellbeing we often forget to nourish...
Our spiritual wellbeing.
Now, when I say spiritual, I'm not necessarily talking about religion. Spirituality can be about feeling connected to yourself, your values, to nature, to God, the universe, whatever gives your life meaning, or simply learning to trust your intuition, that little voice inside that quietly whispers before your brain starts listing 47 reasons why it's a terrible idea.
The challenge is that when we're constantly busy, stressed and overwhelmed, those whispers become harder to hear. Our nervous system is focused on surviving, while our intuition is quietly asking us to slow down.
My Own Serendipitous Journey
Looking back, I can now see that some of the hardest seasons of my life became the very moments that shaped who I am today.
Years ago, I went through early perimenopause without having any idea that's what was happening. I didn't feel like myself anymore and no one was giving me the answers. So, I became my own detective and immersed myself in learning. I tried things that were considered different, from DNA testing to hair testing for food intolerances, because I was determined to understand what my body was trying to tell me and slowly, I brought my body back into balance.
Then came one of the biggest serendipitous moments of my life.
My husband and I were on a family hike in Ohakune. I'd been feeling restless in my HR role for quite some time. I knew I wanted something different, but I had no idea what that looked like. While puffing our way up a hill, one of us said, "What about becoming a health and wellness coach?"
It was one conversation. One lightbulb moment. One seemingly ordinary idea that completely changed the direction of my life. Looking back now, I don't believe those difficult years were detours. They were preparing me for exactly where I needed to be.
What If Life Is Tapping You on the Shoulder?
Our bodies often whisper before they shout and I wonder if life does the same.
Perhaps you've been meaning to call someone.
Perhaps you've been feeling an inner nudge to prioritise your health.
Perhaps you've been thinking about changing careers.
Perhaps you've stumbled across this newsletter today for a reason.
Maybe life is trying to get your attention, not with a loud announcement, but with a gentle whisper saying, "There's another path available to you."
How Do We Notice Serendipity?
Serendipity doesn't usually arrive when we're rushing, it appears when we create enough space to notice. Try creating just five quiet minutes each day.
Then simply ask yourself:
"What is life trying to show me right now?"
Don't force an answer, just stay curious. Over the next week, notice what keeps showing up.
The person you keep thinking about.
The conversation you didn't expect to have.
The podcast that pops up.
The idea that won't leave you alone.
Trust the quiet nudges, even if they don't yet make logical sense. After all, our intuition often whispers long before our mind understands.
Your Next Serendipitous Moment
I believe our greatest challenges often become our greatest teachers. The moments that feel like endings frequently become the beginnings we never knew we needed. Perhaps that's true for you too. Maybe the challenge you're facing today isn't happening to you, maybe it's preparing you for something.
If this resonated with you, perhaps it's your gentle nudge to start putting you first.
If you're navigating perimenopause or menopause, struggling with weight gain, feeling exhausted or burnt out, or simply not feeling like yourself anymore, I'd love to help.
