WHAT ARE YOU CARRYING?

For thousands of years, humans have looked to the stars and seasons as reminders that life moves in cycles. There are times to grow, times to rest, times to reflect, and times to begin again.

As we move through the different seasons of life, one thing becomes increasingly clear - what we don't process, we carry.

Every day we experience emotions like frustration, disappointment, grief, sadness, fear, resentment, hurt, and stress. Yet most of us have been conditioned to keep going. We put on a brave face, carry on with our responsibilities, and tell ourselves we'll deal with it later.

The problem is that "later" often never comes.

The experience may be over, but the energy it created can remain within us if we never create the space to acknowledge it, feel it, learn from it, and release it.

Over time, these unresolved experiences can compound. Like adding more and more items to an already overflowing storage cupboard, eventually there is no room left. Something has to give.

This is often why a new season of life can feel so challenging.

Whether it's becoming a parent, navigating a relationship change, moving into perimenopause, caring for ageing parents, changing careers, reaching midlife, retirement, or any major transition, the emotions and experiences we have carried for years can suddenly feel amplified.

The anxiety feels bigger. The overwhelm feels heavier. The exhaustion feels deeper.

Often it is not simply the new season causing the discomfort. The season is shining a light on everything we have been carrying with us along the way.

Our bodies are incredibly wise and are constantly communicating with us.

A headache, fatigue, irritability, anxiety, feeling stuck, low motivation, or simply feeling "off" can sometimes be the body's way of asking us to pause and pay attention.

Not because something is wrong with us, but because something within us is asking to be acknowledged.

When this happens, try asking yourself:

  • What am I holding onto?

  • What is my body trying to tell me?

  • What am I ready to let go of?

  • What can I learn from this experience?

Releasing an emotional experience does not mean reliving it repeatedly. It means creating a safe space to acknowledge what happened, allowing yourself to feel what needs to be felt, offering yourself compassion, and then consciously choosing to move forward rather than continuing to carry its weight.

Every season of life brings lessons, opportunities for growth, and invitations to heal.

Perhaps the real purpose of these transitions is not to make life harder, but to help us release what no longer serves us.

After all, life has a funny way of presenting the same lesson over and over until we finally pay attention. The body is often no different. It starts with a whisper, then a nudge, and eventually decides a loudspeaker is required.

The invitation is simple: pause, listen, learn, release, and trust the journey.

You may be surprised by how much lighter life feels when you stop carrying what was never yours to hold forever.
